Value-Based
Decision Making

The Values-Based Decision Making (VBDM) program is designed to help create or refine an organization’s culture of leadership based principally on its core values. Achieving alignment across the leadership team and the associates on the vision, mission, and values is key to success for any organization. This program reinforces commitment by leaders learning how to operationalize and intentionally drill the values into the culture, making them a reference for all daily decisions and a
foundation for trust.

VBDM is also designed for delivery as part of a core curriculum in advanced leadership from Integrity Consulting Services Ltd., or to align with an existing in-house leadership curriculum. The workshop is designed to deliver 7.5 hours of classroom instruction (Level 1) or 15 hours of classroom instruction (Level 2) with the addition of approximately 2.5 hours of workshop preparation (Level 1) and 5 hours of workshop preparation (Level 2).

THE LEVEL 1 CURRICULUM

The level 1 curriculum is primarily designed to aid anyone in understanding the design, intent and meaning of their corporate core values along with tools to support them in making daily decisions which align with the corporate values.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The Core Values Assessment tool will help you define and understand your personal core values and provide clear proof of what they mean to you.
  • Articulate the differences between a values-based versus a non-values-based culture, including:
  • Hierarchy vs Values-Based Organizations
  • Behaviour as it relates to Values, Ethics, Morality
  • Individual and organizational characteristics needed to support a values-based culture.
  • Differentiate between an ethical conflict and ethical dilemma while applying values prioritization
  • Be introduced to the history and process in the formation of their corporate core values, vision
    and/or mission.
  • Analyze rationalizations used to violate a values-based culture, including how to mitigate using an understanding of “Moving to The Left Theory.”
  • Gain an understanding of the progression of values-alignment in culture through teamwork and providing feedback on what an organization does to support and possibly hurt/violate core values.
  • Apply the Six-Step, Values-Based Decision-Making process to a customized case study.
  • Explore and define their personal core values, as a means towards more consistent values-based decisions.
  • Articulate what their personal commitment to the core values will look like behaviorally, then contract for accountability with a learning partner.

THE LEVEL 2 CURRICULUM

The level 2 curriculum is primarily designed for those who will champion the values within the organization and is intended to deliver a deeper understanding and stimulate a deeper critical thinking process around various ethical dilemmas and provide greater practice in applying the corporate core values to customized case studies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In addition to the learning objectives included in Level 1, participants will:
  • Articulate the differences between a values-based versus a non-values-based culture, including:
  • Explore research on how people wish to be treated by supervisors in growing a culture of trust
  • Through discussing various articles and case studies, discuss the impact of self-centeredness on corporate culture
  • Work in small teams to build and analyze company-specific case studies then subsequently work as a team to apply values-based decision making to those case studies and work to gain agreement on solution(s).

We offer a comprehensive Train the Trainer process for VBDM which can include a material licensing option, permitting organizations to brand and distribute participant materials.
